Ideally located, we are just a short walk to Front beach, and all the restaurants, shops and galleries on Bearskin Neck. Perhaps you would like to take a day trip to Boston or Salem and leave the car on Cape Ann, the train is just a 5 minute walk up the street.Tobeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047231333563477688noreply@blogger.comBlogger37125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887462313511559267.post-28673652264413620632016-07-22T14:00:00.000-05:002016-07-28T12:31:41.833-05:00<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">With the advent of a brand-new look for our website coming soon, we are going to get back to posting our favorite recipes, photos and interesting Rockport happenings here Under the Linden Tree.....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">To get started, I am going to repost a recipe that I posted over on our Facebook page.....and on our website....what better recipes there to get started with than...my "legendary" scone recipe!!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Enjoy! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: purple; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: large;"><b>Melt in your mouth ( heavenly )<b>Scones</b></b></span><b style="font-family: -webkit-standard;"></b></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">1 ¾ cup flour</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">3 tablespoons sugar</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">2 ½ teaspoons baking powder</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">½ teaspoon salt</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">1/3 cup butter ( 5 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">1 egg, beaten</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">6-8 tablespoons heavy cream</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">½ cup dried fruits or mini semi-sweet chocolate chips</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Heat oven to 400 degrees</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Sift flour with sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut butter with pastry blender or two knives method till crumbly. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Stir in your dried fruits, or nuts or chocolate chips or what ever you are using to flavor your scones. </span>I like to add a lot of "mix-ins" so don't skimp!<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Beat egg with a bit of the heavy cream, Add egg/cream mixture and remaining 6-8 tablespoons heavy cream and m</span>ix till it forms a dough, I like it to be a bit on the sticky side. Add as much heavy cream as you need to get it to the right consistency, the scones should hold their shape well when dropped on cookie sheet. I start with a wooden spoon and then use my hands (just washed and clean of course!!) knead gently about 10 times....drop spoonfuls of your desired size on an ungreased cookie sheet, cook in 400 degree oven, (again, I use my hands to make the size scone I like, but you can determine which method works best for you!!) cook about 10 to 14 minutes, your oven time may vary.<br />
Enjoy them warm from the oven. Serve with butter and jam, or be decadent and serve with whipped or clotted cream! <br />
If you have any leftover, you can warm them up in the oven (400 degrees for 5 minutes) for a few minutes and they will freshen up nicely.<br />
They also freeze well. Place them in a ziplock freezer bag and put them in the freezer the day they are baked. Take out either the night before and place in fridge to thaw, or several hours before serving thaw them on the counter. Reheat in a 400 degree oven for 5 minutes. Enjoy!!! <br />

TREE INN GETS GREAT PRESS!!!!We had two very nice articles in the paper this past week, both written by guests that stayed with us!<br /><br />The first one that was brought to my attention by a long time guest of the Linden Tree was in the paper on Sunday in The Republican, (Springfield MA) and on the <a href="http://www.masslive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2010/09/commentary_savoring_summers_en.html">web at masslive.com</a> It was a lovely commentary on a guest's stay, and even though the name of the inn was not mentioned, anyone who has stayed here would immediately know it was the Linden Tree!!! Scones, cupola, rambling victorian? Definitely The Linden Tree!!<br /><br />The second article brought to my attention, also by a long time guest, was in the Sunday Boston Globe Travel section, about bicycling trips. We were so pleased to be mentioned, it is always a thrill to see your name in print!!! The article is <a href="http://www.boston.com/travel/explorene/massachusetts/articles/2010/09/19/the_power_of_the_pedal/?page=1">here.</a><div><br /></div><div>Thanks to Fred and Stephen for making our day!!! </div>Tobeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047231333563477688noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887462313511559267.post-17229235171980559052010-09-13T12:34:00.006-05:002010-09-13T12:40:34.316-05:00TRAILS AND SAILS TIME IN ESSEX COUNTY!It's Trails and Sails time again in Essex County. This historic golf tournament was last played in at the Essex County Club in 1938. Officially titled “The Women’s International Cup,” the Curtis Cup is named for Essex County Club members Margaret and Harriot Curtis. The tournament is played by three teams, one from Great Britian, one from Ireland and one from the USA. This week it blessed up with a bloom....my plant usually only blooms about once a year, so I only have one time a year to enjoy and photograph it! I love taking pictures of the bloom, it is so unusual, and has the most amazing fragrance that fills the sunroom as it blooms. I hope you enjoy a few of my favorite shots from this weeks blooming.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM_J2p8LJI/AAAAAAAAAZU/R8ZaOvjB0pY/s1600-h/IMG_0111.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM_J2p8LJI/AAAAAAAAAZU/R8ZaOvjB0pY/s320/IMG_0111.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103829712186514" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-4oi7V0I/AAAAAAAAAYk/xUyKofp2m_c/s1600-h/IMG_0007.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-4oi7V0I/AAAAAAAAAYk/xUyKofp2m_c/s320/IMG_0007.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103533866899266" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-4-1k6II/AAAAAAAAAYs/GNiCExbkGp0/s1600-h/IMG_0014.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-4-1k6II/AAAAAAAAAYs/GNiCExbkGp0/s320/IMG_0014.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103539850700930" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5FJ7cWI/AAAAAAAAAY0/7airX3tN45A/s1600-h/IMG_0029.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5FJ7cWI/AAAAAAAAAY0/7airX3tN45A/s320/IMG_0029.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103541546676578" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5c0qOsI/AAAAAAAAAY8/Z1Y0tp2ObwY/s1600-h/IMG_0044.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5c0qOsI/AAAAAAAAAY8/Z1Y0tp2ObwY/s320/IMG_0044.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103547899919042" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5WY4SJI/AAAAAAAAAZE/TvUdO5XqQe4/s1600-h/IMG_0088.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM-5WY4SJI/AAAAAAAAAZE/TvUdO5XqQe4/s320/IMG_0088.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103546172786834" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM_BmSrt6I/AAAAAAAAAZM/RaDkjK8jStI/s1600-h/IMG_0090.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SMM_BmSrt6I/AAAAAAAAAZM/RaDkjK8jStI/s320/IMG_0090.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243103687880718242" /></a>Tobeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047231333563477688noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887462313511559267.post-813845622142846152008-06-15T15:00:00.011-05:002008-07-18T10:07:46.885-05:00JUNE IN ROCKPORT!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWim3ykC3I/AAAAAAAAAXc/_WXhaXOQZnE/s1600-h/IMG_0020.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWim3ykC3I/AAAAAAAAAXc/_WXhaXOQZnE/s320/IMG_0020.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212250932445973362" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWinGGd4jI/AAAAAAAAAXk/snasxvTaR-k/s1600-h/IMG_0033.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWinGGd4jI/AAAAAAAAAXk/snasxvTaR-k/s320/IMG_0033.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212250936287552050" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Now that the spell of unseasonable hot and humid weather from the last week is behind us, I have been able to get out and spend a little time in the gardens. The flowers are blooming like crazy, and I thought you might like to see some of the color in our gardens this time of year. The linden tree is all leafed out, and soon will be sporting a gorgeous white profusion of flowers, with that unbelievable sweet fragrance that the linden tree possesses. If you aren't visiting when the tree is blooming, then you can experience the sweet perfume of the tree captured in the Baudelaire linden flower soap and shampoo in the guest bathrooms. To prolong the memory, you can purchase other Baudelaire body care products with the linden flower fragrance at the inn. <div><br /></div><div>Along with the blooming flowers, Rockport is bursting with the wonderful sounds of the <a href="http://rcmf.org/">Rockport Chamber Music Festival</a> concerts. We have had several musicians stay with us, and have enjoyed some of their music drifting out of their rooms as they warm up and rehearse for their upcoming performance. The festival continues through the month of June Thursday through Sundays, with the closing performance on July 2nd.</div><div><br /></div><div>Call now to make your reservations and enjoy this profusion of beauty for yourself!</div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWj7BmrVsI/AAAAAAAAAYM/j5rFvTUBWe0/s1600-h/IMG_0007.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWj7BmrVsI/AAAAAAAAAYM/j5rFvTUBWe0/s320/IMG_0007.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212252378189485762" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjcEIE75I/AAAAAAAAAX0/2vfjouUOlCE/s1600-h/IMG_0037.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjcEIE75I/AAAAAAAAAX0/2vfjouUOlCE/s320/IMG_0037.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212251846290501522" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjcTT0g0I/AAAAAAAAAX8/btaTjEr1yaA/s1600-h/IMG_0047.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjcTT0g0I/AAAAAAAAAX8/btaTjEr1yaA/s320/IMG_0047.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212251850366288706" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjct86A6I/AAAAAAAAAYE/c_z1Z8Gb8oE/s1600-h/IMG_0069.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SFWjct86A6I/AAAAAAAAAYE/c_z1Z8Gb8oE/s320/IMG_0069.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212251857517937570" /></a>Tobeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11047231333563477688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887462313511559267.post-11810321662965011582008-04-20T13:04:00.008-05:002008-04-20T16:26:51.137-05:00WELCOME TO ROCKPORT???<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SAu0GovQ8AI/AAAAAAAAAVU/NzMbxWB2HcA/s1600-h/IMG_0110.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SAu0GovQ8AI/AAAAAAAAAVU/NzMbxWB2HcA/s320/IMG_0110.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191441021582503938" /></a>Well, we have been having some exciting times here in Rockport! The crew from Disney was in town filming a new romantic comedy called "The Proposal" starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The film takes place in Sitka, Alaska and Rockport has been transformed to this Alaskan seaside village. It's been a bit strange to have totem poles in dock square, and Sitka, Alaska banners hanging from the signposts....but I will let you be the judge of that with photos of our lovely town....there have been a lot of star sightings around town of Sandra, Ryan, Mary Steenbergen (wonder where Ted Danson was?) and Betty White, as well as Sandra's husband, Jesse James. I was not so fortunate to see anyone famous, but it was exciting all the same! Check out the Motif #1, the Fish Shack, the Greenery, the Future home of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival and several other local shops....looks familiar.....with a twist! <br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wXGAA6f5NSA/SAuzDYvQ72I/AAAAAAAAAUE/7dUXFJE5H3w/s1600-h/IMG_0107.JPG"><img style="display:block;
